Anxiety and osteopathy

Did you know that anxiety can be treated with osteopathy?

Common approaches to anxiety management have rarely proven to be a definitive solution. For this reason, the medical community has turned to complementary medicine as an additional therapy.

The most common symptoms are anxiety, worry, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, muscle tension, sleep disturbances, and a lack of rest.

Pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies address the neurochemical and emotional dysregulation caused by anxiety.

Unfortunately, remission rates remain below 50%, which is why specialists have begun to seek help from osteopathy.

During osteopathic treatment, it has been shown that touching the patient stimulates ‘Beta’ and ‘C’ tactile receptors, which aid in the release of oxytocin.

Oxytocin is a hormone that leads to a reduction in stress via the hypothalamic-pituitary axis; it has a systemic effect, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, reducing pain levels, and providing a global anxiolytic effect.

Furthermore, it has been observed that the fascial system, upon which osteopathic treatment acts, communicates with the endocrine, neurovascular, and immune systems.

Through the mechanical stimuli that the osteopath applies to the body, there is improved fascial mobility, circulation improves, and nerve transmission is optimized, resulting in psychophysical and emotional well-being.
